Each and every one of us have a “first boot camp”. Oh, how nervous I was walking into that garage for the first time, seeing some familiar faces but, not really knowing anyone. One workout per week was a run/walk day. Tish and Rebekah had individual training plans for each person. I began with a walk for 3 minutes, jog for 3 minutes, for a total of 3 miles. By the end of “Holiday Blitz” I was running over 3 miles without stopping. Little did I know a couple months later I would run my first race ever….a half marathon!
Runners bootcamp was an amazing experience for not only me but I believe everyone who participated. Every long training run was done as a group. Seeing smiling faces and hearing encouraging words as our paths crossed throughout the miles and weeks of training. Some days it seemed that race day would never be there. All out hard work was worth it because crossing the finish line after running 13.1 miles was one of my greatest accomplishments of my life. Now a year later, I am in my final weeks of training for the half marathon once again!
Tish and Rebekah are two of the most amazing woman I have ever met. I believe that God brings people into our lives for a reason. They, along with my fellow Chix, have helped me to overcome insecurities I never dreamed possible. There are no words to express the gratitude I have for the things they have not only taught me but, have reminded me as well. I have began to transform not only my body but my mind and spirit as well. I am no longer nervous thinking about going into that garage. I get excited thinking about future friendships, accomplishments and even the challenges we all will share. Bootcamp is so much more that just working out. It’s about learning and appreciation things about life, myself, and others.
On April 30, 2001, Deanne completed her second half marathon with a time of 2:15 smashing her first 1/2 marathon time of 2:56!
