Jamie Meeks

unnamed-3I started my fitness journey in April 2014. I had my birthday party, and I was looking at all the pictures the next day. I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t know how I had let myself get that way without realizing. I knew I wouldn’t be able to exercise to get into shape being a smoker, so I quit cold turkey after 26 years! I started walking, I tried to do the Couch to 5k, I bought the exercise ball and dug out the old “as seen on tv” exercise equipment, and I Pinterested all kinds of “diet food”. Needless to say, I about shredded my thighs trying too much too soon, and my scale discouragingly stayed in the same place.
That’s when I decided to try Chix in Training. My first day of camp, I am huffing and puffing, covered in sweat, and feeling dizzy. That is when the trainers yelled “now that we are warmed up….” WHAT?!!! Just the warm up? What had I got myself into?
But I did make it through the first day, first camp, and all of them since then. The trainers and other Chix have gone out of their way to support and help me. My two year “Chixiversary” is coming up in April. I have met such amazing women that I have become so close to. I have learned so much about nutrition and fitness, and how much better I feel has become much more important than how I look (although that has significantly changed). I have lost almost 40 lbs with a total of almost 60 inches overall. I have now run multiple 5k’s, 10k’s, 15k’s, and half marathons (amazing coming from someone that couldn’t even run the length of a block before!)
With all of these physical changes, however, it is not the biggest impact Chix in Training has had on me. I went looking for help to get fit and look better and have found so much more, something I didn’t even know I was missing in my life. Chix in Training has helped me to find my faith. I have found my way to God and church, and it is an awesome feeling.
I don’t know how I could thank Chix in Training for everything. My life has changed for the better in so many ways. My only regret is that I did not start my journey sooner. I am looking forward to learning more about being a Chix in Training trainer and opening my own camp. My goal is to pay this forward to more amazing women out there!
